Everyone else I knew went the ZX route but there was something about Commodore Business Machines that tickled my pickle; they were more like real computers but with awesome SID chips (and I do so like my audio) and without manky masochistic membrane or rubber keyboards and bizarro 'shorthand' input system for BASIC. There was also an added air of exotic sophistication to the C6. US and Europe - often on floppy disks, like real computers used; some of it rare and legendary in C6. Spectrum was so UK- centric in its formative years and tape- driven for life (you can forget that wacky Microdrive shit). That's not to say the Commodore 6. I certainly got my fair share of virtual kicks from both systems - but by the time I was working on ZZAP! I'd effectively made my bed with the brash American and had to settle for the occasional bit on the side with the eccentric Brit instead. I have such fond memories of both machines, but the fondest by far are for the C6. ZZAP! Simon Brattel, responsible for groundbreaking Spectrum games like Dark Star and Hall of the Things weighs in. It needs to be understood that the 6. Z8. 0 had unpredictable timing with different instructions taking different numbers of clocks, it was basically using the memory bus all the time.
